Metal (steel?); back has screw holes to mount box on wall; holder has 1.5" front & side walls and pattern-tooled front; [circular pattern on back (Manufacturer's stamp?) painted green, wooden handle] - all of information in brackets is untrue? Manufacturer's mark engraved on back plate reads: "THE FOYER STEEL STAMPING CO. / F / PAINESVILLE, O.U.S.A". Front of the box has little engraved holes that might be for striking matches against.
