Challenge Coin
Commemorating five men lost on March 4, 1971 (in the airplane pictured on the coin). One side of coin, White center with blue outer ring, in center of coin a pair of blue wings with two reflected red bolts and "LONELY RINGER" on banner at front. Written around edges of white inner circle "1 JUNE 1966-3 MARCH 1973 / SIAGON-LONG THANH NORTH, RVN." Outer blue band "224TH AVIATION BATTALION (RADIO RESEARCH) / 509TH U.S. ARMY SECURITY AGENCY GROUP." Other side of coin, outer blue band with inner white circle. Center of coin Top center US Army basic pilot wings (Pair of spread wings with shield in the middle top third with horizontal stripes, bottom tow thirds has horizontal stripes. Left side has blue pennant with red center. Banner at top reads "138TH AVN CO". Center of pennant has basic army with wings above skull and cross bones with three jagged lines coming out of center of crown. On bottom of coin are non-rated officer aircrew wings. (Spread open wings with shield on center, in the shield is American eagle spread wings on top of branches with wreath on head). Right side of coin silver silhouette of Vietnam with stars marking cities (Hue, De Nang, Ho Chi Min, Phu Bai?) Written around blue outer ring, "138 AVIATION COMPANY (RADIO RESEARCH / DA NANG-HUE/PHU BAI, RVN / 1 JUNE 1966-1 MARCH 1973." Debossed on bottom of coin, "COINFORCE"Use
