2013-0023-0001Description
Copy of a black and white photograph taken in May 1937 showing fifth grade girls, about 11 years old, dressed for the annual May Festival pictures in front of the Laurel Elementary School on Montgomery Street. The school is not showen but lies just to the east or left of the group. However, there is a view of the Shirt Factory in the left background.
Most of the dresses were made by the mothers of these girls. All except the 'tom boy' in the ront have ribbons in their hair or head decorations. School buses took the student body to the University of Maryland, College Park, to join other schools for a big May Procession.
