1845 accounts ledger found in museum house. The location of this ledger would make one believe that the museum house had, at one time, housed the store. However, Tom Tapscott worked in the mill and he believes the store was in the house east of the museum. Others believe it was the foreman's home. Regardless, it is a very important document. It lists names and money only, no itemizing.
This ledger was found in the Laurel Museum building when it was still privately owned. Its presence in the structure suggests that the building at one time may have served as a store, though this is not confirmed. Transactions include items handwritten by Mill President and Founder Horace Capron, whose signature can be seen on the left, item #7. This is the oldest mill-related document in the museum collection.Collection
