In the defensive battle east of Lviv in 1914, the regiment was forced to retreat with the entire army there, yielding to the pressure of the overwhelming enemy, which during the retreat on August 30, 1914, after the Battle of Meriscov, a handful of Székelys (the remnants of the 15th company and the 2nd battalion) completely destroyed the Cossacks in their wake.
