This is a refined and highly detailed Walking Staff (or Chadi), distinguished by its intricate natural handle and high-quality metalwork. While similar to a standard Lathi, the proportions and decorative finishes categorize this as a "gentleman’s" or "village elder’s" staff, intended for both support and social status.
The Handle: The standout feature is the highly figured root-ball handle. Unlike a simple curve, this handle shows a complex cluster of eye-like nodes where the roots were pruned and seasoned. This "knotted" texture is highly prized for its unique organic aesthetic and provides a non-slip, tactile grip.
The Shaft: Crafted from seasoned, solid-core "Male" bamboo, the shaft exhibits tight, uniform nodes. The bamboo has a natural, light-honey patina, suggesting it has been carefully maintained with oil to preserve its flexibility and strength.
The Ferrule (End Cap): The base is encased in an extraordinarily long brass ferrule. The brass is densely decorated with traditional Indian geometric and floral patterns using a technique called chasing.
