My Design & Engineering Observations
My Choice of Blade Architecture (The Radical Recurve):
I am looking at a hand-hammered, high-carbon steel blade with a deep, sickle-shaped Concave Edge.
My Technical Logic: The "hook" geometry creates a self-tightening cutting action. As I pull the blade toward me, the material is naturally channeled into the deepest part of the curve. This provides me with a significantly higher Mechanical Advantage than a straight blade, effectively capturing and shearing fibrous organic matter with a single "Certain" stroke.
My Forged Transition & Ferrule:
I notice a radical "cranked" offset between the blade and the hilt.
My Engineering Intent: This offset allows for Knuckle Clearance. When I am working close to a flat surface or the ground, this geometry ensures my hand remains on a separate longitudinal plane from the cutting edge, maintaining my Operational Safety while allowing for a shallow, high-status administrative stroke.
My Hilt & Material Integrity:
The blade is seated into a long, tapered metal ferrule which then transitions into a smooth, turned wooden handle.
My Structural Certainty: The long ferrule acts as a Stress-Distributing Sleeve, preventing the tang from splitting the wood under the heavy lateral torque inherent in sickle use.
