This is a traditional Battle Axe (or Tabar), hand-forged by the Gadiya Lohar community of Rajasthan. Acquired directly from the maker in Jodhpur, this piece is an authentic example of nomadic blacksmithing, where the steel is worked on portable anvils using centuries-old techniques.
Blade: The axe features a crescent-shaped, single-edged blade with a broad cutting surface. The surface exhibits a raw, "as-forged" finish with visible hammer marks, characteristic of tribal smithing. A distinctive circular maker's mark (or "bindi" stamp) is punched into the side of the blade, serving as the blacksmith's signature.
The Eye & Socket: The blade is attached to the handle via a robust, hand-welded circular socket. This wrap-around construction is designed for maximum durability under high-impact force.
Handle (Shaft): The long, straight handle is crafted from Babool wood (Acacia nilotica). Babool is favored by desert communities for its extreme hardness, density, and natural resistance to termites and rot, making it the ideal material for a heavy-duty tool or weapon.Made/Created
