This Douglas Fir tree was 414 years old and 250 feet high. The section shown is 59 inches in diameter inside the bark. If the log had been 32 feet long and cut as shown it would have produced 5763 feet of lumber. It could have been cut in several different ways, however. The purpose of the picture is to show from which part of the log the various pieces are obtained. The saw kert as shown is actual size and caused 12.9% waste. Total waste in cutting was 21%.Collection
