Description

Black and white photo of people standing on the sidewalk on W. Pine in Centralia ca. 1920. They are watching a tipped over WWI Army tank that was used 1918 - 1940 to push over houses to be razed around the city. In background is the Edward Newell Undertaking Co. at 205 W Pine. To the right is the First Baptist Church, which burned ca. 1921/22, and was replaced by a brick building on the same foundation in 1925. This brick building still standing in 1986, was badly cracked in 1949 during an earthquake and was later covered in stucco. In 1965 the church built a new building at 930 N. Scheuber Rd. and Newell-Hoerling Mortuary purchased the building. Have negative.
