The coal tipple at Centralia, WA August 1954, now out of service. Loaded hopper cars were drawn by a hoist in the small house on the left up onto the larger where they were dumped into a coal bunker. Since those of us who worked as hostler helpers had to shovel the cinders dumped in the cinder pit into the cinder cars, we did not lament the passing of the coal burning era in Centralia, WA.
