P1771Description
Home of Charles Gilchrist house at 114 W. Walnut, corner of South Pearl, Centralia, WA. Built ca.1886, it became the talk of the town because of the skylight at the top of the third story billard room. Original wrought iron fence still surrounds the yard. Oct. 12,1962 windstorm damaged the skylight to the extent that makeshift repairs had to be made. Now in 1995, house is in good repair. Gilchrist was a native of Scotland, made a fortune in lumber at Washoe, Nevada, came to WA in 1878, purchased mill and founded the Lewis County Bank. (photo in Upstairs storage)
