A collection of documents relating to the education and artistic careers of Lewis Latimer’s daughters, Louise Latimer and Jeannette Latimer, probably assembled by Jeannette’s daughter, Winifred Norman. The folder includes important materials documenting Louise’s involvement as an artist in the Harlem Renaissance, including art exhibition catalogs, a newspaper obituary, and a notable handbill or poster designed circa 1926 by the Harlem Renaissance artist Aaron Douglas for the Krigwa Players Little Negro Theatre, a drama troupe run by W.E.B. Du Bois, Louise Latimer, and others. Other items include fragments of a yearbook from Louise’s alma mater, Pratt Institute, and materials relating to Latimer family friend Harry T. Burleigh, an important African American composer and baritone soloist at Manhattan’s St. George Episcopal Church.
