Printed Materials: Latimer Family Papers: Exhibition Catalogue and Historical Publications

Context

This file contains a variety of printed materials related to exhibitions, military history, aviation chronology, and periodical articles. These documents reflect the Latimer family's engagement with historical and educational materials from different domains. Probably preserved by Lewis Latimer’s granddaughter Winifred Norman, the materials include a clipping from an African American Brooklyn newspaper or magazine dated March 1910, noting Jeannette Latimer’s “engagement luncheon” before her marriage to Gerald F. Norman, as well as a note about the Holbrook family (possibly relatives of the Latimers); a picture of Admiral David Porter, commander of the Union Navy forces in which Lewis Latimer served during the Civil War; a catalog for a 1918 exhibition of the Negro Library Association, compiled by Arthur Schomburg; and a Chronology of Aviation (1911) co-written by Lewis Latimer’s Edison colleague, William J. Hammer, and Hudson Maxim, brother of Latimer’s former employer, Hiram Maxim.
