A letter from John F. Randolph, Lewis Latimer’s friend and former colleague, written from Thomas Edison’s laboratory at Orange [today West Orange], New Jersey, dated July 29th, 1889, with envelope. Randolph was working on site with Edison, while Latimer worked in one of Edison’s New York City offices. Writing in response to a letter and poem that Latimer had recently sent him, Randolph reports that “after reading the poem I handed same to Mr. Edison and he read it over very carefully and said it was d—m [i.e., damn] good.”Subject
