Child's Rocking Chair

Name/Title

Child's Rocking Chair

Description

Child's ladderback rocking arm chair. Rockers added at a later date. Chair originally made of maple which at one point was stained black. Splats are made of chestnut as are likely the added rockers. Turned stiles and front posts have banding indentations indicating the holes for stretchers and seat supports and slots for the three splats. The proper right arm appears to be a replacement whereas the proper left arm is original. Both are turned. The splint seat appears to be original. The round stiles are slightly tapered and originally were capped with modest finials now removed. The turned front posts are boldly shaped.
