Name/Title

Plow

Description

Iron plow sheathed in steel set into a wooden frame. Mold board sheathed in iron with a long wooden beam (plow beam with adjustable metal fixtures to allow harnessing to a team of oxen or horses). The plow was guided by a human operator gripping two wooden handles. According to the inventory card the main beam was made from a selected root or branch. Parts are integrated by mortise and tenon joining. Also noteworthy are the precisely shaped handles and the hand forged iron plates and fittings. The coulter is made of wrought iron and slices the sod vertically whereas the plow share slices the sod horizontally. The mould board then thrusts out the sod into furrows. The plow share is made of wrought iron with a steel edge.
