Research Notes

Notes

The Wiscasset Fire Society was established in 1801 and local men volunteered to fight fires in the Wiscasset community. Fire buckets were painted with the name of the owner and sometimes a family crest. The rounded bottom of the bucket made it easy to direct streams of water onto the fire.
