Rabbet (Dado) Plane

Name/Title

Rabbet (Dado) Plane

Description

Beech wood rabbet plane (in this instance referred to as a "Dado Plane"). Is with an adjustable fence. A dado is a rectilinear channel cut across the grain in supports for cabinet shelves or drawers. Its iron blade ends with a steel cutting edge. A double spur was placed in front of the cutter and prevented tenting during plowing. A temporary fence was attached across the work and the plane was first pulled backwards against the fence to scribe the extreme width of the dado. The plane was then advanced. A partly embedded eye would cast off the shavings to the left
