Lincolnville Historical Society

Item Count3,358

The Lincolnville Historical Society collects, preserves and interprets the historical data — photographs, letters, maps, diaries, artifacts — pertaining to this town of about 2,200 people halfway up the coast of Maine. Lincolnville’s history goes back several thousand years to the indigenous people who settled here as the glaciers retreated. By 1770 settlers had arrived from southern New England and began farming, lumbering, quarrying, ship building, and raising families. With its coastal location it became a popular summer destination in the 20th century. We celebrate this rich history at our Schoolhouse Museum near the Beach area of town, and our agricultural and sea-going heritage at the Jackie Young Watts Open Air Museum in Lincolnville Center. Explore our extensive collection online here, and next time you’re coming up the coast of Maine, stop in and see our town in person.
