The 36th Infantry Division was one of 18 National Guard Infantry Divisions mobilized for service in 1940-41. The Division landed in North Africa in April, 1943 for additional training. It was assigned to the US 5th Army and conducted its first combat mission in September 9 as part of the invasion at Salerno, Italy. Over the next 19 months, the division participated in two amphibious assaults and five major campaigns in Italy, France, and the Rhineland.Collection
