Education, both secular and religious, was and important part of the early years of Lititz. This worked well schooling in the Sisters' and Brothers' houses through the 18th century. But the social and demographic changes in Lititz and the surrounding area changed as outsiders came as students. Some residents became concerned that the old system was no longer meeting the spiritual and educational needs of the children. Looking at successful examples of Sunday schools in Lancaster and Ephrata, Bishop Peter Wolle and other residents looked to do the same in Lititz. By January, 1846, they had commissioned teachers and were ready to establish Sunday School in Lititz.Dimensions
