Description

Most 18th century homes did not have closets, largely because people did not need extensive storage space. Extra clothing was either hung on a clothes hook, stored in trunks, or placed in a chest of drawers. As families grew and developed a need for more storage space, they relied on free standing cabinets, armoires, or wardrobes. The blue kas or cabinet is one of serval examples of free standing storage in the Mueller House. This cabinet currently stores books and other small items rather than clothing. Note also the distinctive bat wing style hinges on the door.
