1997.244.161Description
A partially demolished wooden building with one window and a large central aperture or door stands in a barren landscape. Twisted railroad tracks still attached to sleepers lie in the foreground. Large timbers lean against a corner of the building. A note in ink written across the top of the image reads, " Type of German shacks in use as office etc. prior to advance, Roadroad used to bring up supplies." Probably taken near Charney-sur-Meuse, a village near Verdun partially destroyed in the Meuse-Argonne offensive of September - November 11, 1918.Photograph Details
