Dear 'Miss Maston,' I will have completed 10 years in the army in January, expect to retire after 10 more years of soldiering. It is lovely in Heidelberg-- Gen. Patton died @ this hospital. I had my x-mas 3 day pass @ Berchtesgaden- Hitler's homes was there- now a total wreck, but much of world war II history took place there. Have seen Riley- we had dinner together @ Col. Fitzgerald's. They were in Persia during the war. Riley is in Munich. How is the hospital? back on its feet from the war years? My regards to all- Ever, Rowena

Notes

Rowena Roach resigned as Assistant Supervisor of the Operating Room, University Hospital, Maryland and enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in January, 1940. She was rotated to Germany in 1947. 'Miss Maston' is Bessie Lee Maston (DIN 1920) [Mrs. Harold Arnurius; Maston married sometime after 1940, so Roach is making a gentle joke of using her maiden name. They worked together at University Hospital.] Riley is Della Riley (DIN 1936). Colonel Fitzgerald is probably Gregory J. Fitzgerald, USAF.
