P75-98 1900 Facing Southwest at St. Charles Road and Park Avenue. Back in 1900, there were political campaigns in Lombard, too. This turn-of-the-century photo, facing southwest at St. Charles Road and Park Avenue, shows a candidate (identified as Peter Wiegand) sitting in his wagon pulled by a team of oxen, one of which has a campaign placard attached. He was the one-time proprietor of the Lombard Hotel, shown on the right. The campaigning is taking place in front of the Louis Marquardt Store. This is one of the rare photos which will appear in "Footsteps On The Tall Grass Prairie," to be published by the Lombard Historical Society sometime in February [1977].Collection
