Scope and Content

This article about the 25th anniversary and vow renewal of Mr. and Mrs. Leon and Rushia Hogg was printed in the Lorain Journal on July 14, 1969. This collection of photos and articles features Mr. Leon Hogg. In addition to working a full-time job at the Lorain steel mill, Mr. Hogg turned his love and passion for photography into a side business that left an enduring legacy. Mr. Hogg captured special moments like weddings, celebrations, historical events and more around the city and especially within the Black community for more than three decades. Much of his work was published in local newspapers. Ms. Cheryl Mitchell-Thompson (donor of the photo collection) has fond memories of watching her grandfather's reel-to-reel family films and of seeing him spend time in his basement studio and darkroom. Mr. Hogg received many honors and accolades from Black community organizations, including the Lorain Chapter of the NAACP in 1981 and the Lorain County Alliance of Black School Educators in 1994.
