Interview with William Capetillo. William is Puerto Rican. He was born and raised in Lorain, Ohio. He joined the U.S. Air Force in January 1985 and served through June 2006. He remained in the same program as a government contractor between June 2006 and September 2010. He has continued his work in the same office since being officially hired as a civilian employee in September 2010. William completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Eglin Air Force Base (Florida) before he was deployed to the Middle East after the Gulf War began. William served in Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and several smaller campaigns abroad. He returned back to Eglin Air Force Base after deployment. William initially worked as an ammunitions systems technician but later started working with weapons development, acquisition, and fielding. William discusses the importance and meaning behind challenge coins in the military during this interview.Collection
