Oral History Interview for Vine Avenue with Joel Arredondo
Memories of Vine Street do not begin until Joel Arredondo got himself a paper route at the age of 10 or 11 (1957-58) that he would deliver after his school day at St. Cyril’s ended. From there, Joel goes on to describe the businesses that came and went, the proprietors who called South Lorain “home”, and the relationships established along his route. Urban renewal began in about 1967, but it wasn’t until well into the 70s that Joel realized what urban renewal was all about: “To me, that was, not so much at the time, but maybe 10 years later when you found out that the whole idea, part of that was to disrupt this Latino, primarily Puerto Rican community, which had become a political force.”Collection
