Oral History Interview for Vine Avenue with Gustalo Nunez
As a child, Gus dealt with a number of sicknesses, the most serious being polio when he was about 11. It was a mild case, but he spent two weeks in the hospital, and he remembers being sad about all the children in iron lungs. Gus was one of ten children, and he reminisces about he and his brothers being picked up on the corner of 31st street in a truck to go work on farms for the day. “Depending on how big you were, if there was something tall or high, he’d pick the big kids. And if it was something like strawberries or beans, pick the little kids. Did that for about three or four years.” He goes on to talk about his children, how he went from studying engineering to studying law, and his proudest moment, being elected Lorain County’s first Hispanic judge.Collection
