Oral History Interview for Vine Avenue with Miriam Rousell
Miriam recalls how her grandfather came to Lorain initially for the steel mill and then later her uncle and father did too. Her father and mother came to Lorain and rented space on E 29th St from a Hungarian couple. She recalled only speaking Spanish initially and then learning English and experiencing Russian and Slovak traditions at St. Nicholas school. She shares her feelings and experience with prejudice and racism, and concludes, “I’m just very proud of my heritage. I’m proud to be American and I’m proud to be Puerto Rican. And I love that I am a mix. That I get to eat the fruits and the benefits of both those heritages...”Collection
