Oral History Interview for Vine Avenue with Robert Vieta Jr
Robert’s father was born in Puerto Rico and served in the 152 Infantry of the US Army. After his service he moved his family to New York first and then eventually moved to Lorain, joining his mother (Robert’s grandmother) and other relatives who already had moved to Lorain for the steel mill. He did not want to work for the steel mill and instead pursued and was hired as the first Latino sheriff in Lorain County and the first Latino officer in the City of Lorain. He really enjoyed his experience as a police officer and liked working with people, especially youths. Robert also went into the service and stayed in Lorain spending 33 years for the Ford Motor Company, 23 years of that was as a union representative.Collection
