Transcript of interview with Darlene Brown about her WWII memories.
Brief Summary/A Few Direct Quotes:
Darlene memory of WWII consists of her father working two jobs and her mother going to welding classes and working at American Ship Building. They called her mom Rosie the Riveter. One of her cousins was a prisoner of war and told of his treatment which was not good. She recalls the end of the war when the newspaper boys were yelling "extra, extra" to announce the end. Darlene has a family history in the black community that goes way back in the Lorain area and has kept a record of their achievements and life in Lorain, including Milton Poet who is considered Lorain's first black / African American settler. Most of her comments were about her family history, including her and her families experience with racism.Collection
