Marty Martinez
Military Service from December 1964 till May 1969
I was born and raised in Lorain, OH. I graduated in 1964 at Admiral King. I did not have the best grades and could not afford college. In December I decided to enlist in the U.S. Air Force before I got drafted. In June of 1965 my draft number came up.
I ended up being in the medics and went to Montgomery, Alabama for tech school. This was during the demonstrations.
After that I went to Tennessee as part of the Tactical Air Command. While I was there, I was sent to the Dominican Republic in April 1965 to stop communism. I was part of the Air Force Mass Unit. After my tour I went back to Tennessee. In April of 1966 I was waiting for orders to go to Vietnam. I was called to the orderly rooms to get orders. They let me know I was not going to Vietnam but going to France 40 miles north of Parish. WHen De Gaul kicked us out of France, I ended up in England just 40 miles north of London. At what point the war was over for me. I took a lot of leave and saw Europe. I aslo saw my great uncle in Italy.
Since I had the GI Bill and thankfully I survived, I went to school at LCCC and Baldwin Wallace. I decided I had enough of being in the medical field and went into computers. I majored in computers and minored in accounting at LCCC. I majored in business and minored in economics at Baldwin Wallace.
Living in Elyria. Married 49 years, have 2 sons and 2 grandchildren. Enjoying retirement.Collection
