Photo of Mike Ferrer standing next to a sign in Fort Drum, New York in February 1984. Mike served in the U.S. Army. The sign states that this location is the (temporary) headquarters of the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry. This was Mike's unit as a member of the Commander-in-Chief's Guard. Mike and his unit were in Fort Drum for winter training. He described the land as being very flat and noted that there were numerous blizzards during their time training at Fort Drum. The 187th Infantry is also known as "Rakkasans, " which means "falling umbrella" in Japanese. The term is used as a salute in that unit too.Collection
