Clarence D. Coates served in the Army and was trained as part of the Headquarters Company, 329th Infantry Regiment. Before being shipped overseas, he was promoted to Corporal. Once overseas, he became a sergeant and fought in many battles that Lorain soldiers fought in. He saw action in the Battle of Aisne-Marne, Battle of St. Mihiel, and the Battle of Meuse-Argonne. He also fought in smaller conflicts that were not large enough for a name to be given. He returned stateside, safe and unharmed, but highly decorated as a result of his participation in so many battles.Acquisition
