Context

On re-organisation of the Militia in the 1860's, units were numbered and given a county title. Brass numbers were issued as the unit cap badge. Individual unit badges began to appear in the 1870s, replacing the numbers. The 20th continued to use the brass numbers as both shoulder titles and on the field service cap into the early 1900s. The 20th Halton Infantry Battalion is perpetuated by the Lorne Scots Regiment.
