Description
A King George VI pattern Canadian Forces Decoration awarded for 12 years service to CSM JL Barr of the Lorne Scots. The medal has been privately mounted to a blue and cardboard backing.

Context
Authorised in 1949 to replace the Efficiency Decoration and Efficiency Medal. First issued in 1951 and issued until 1957. Issue of this pattern overlapped with the Queen Elizabeth II pattern, first issued in 1954.
CSM Barr joined the 2nd Battalion, Lorne Scots on 23 July 1940 and remained in the Regiment after the end of the Second World War, serving until 23 July 1961. Born in England in 1907, he was an automobile mechanic and died in Texas in 1978. He is buried in Brampton.
