The 37th Battalion (CEF) is perpetuated by the Lorne Scots Regiment. The battalion was authorised on 7 November 1914 and mobilized at Niagara Falls. Although named "Northern Ontario" it recruited in both Northern and Southern Ontario. The battalion sailed for England on 27 Nov 1915 with a strength of 40 officers and 1104 men. It was retained in England and the men were drafted as reinforcements to other units of the CEF. The battalion was officially disbanded on 21 May 1917. Private G B Chisholm was a member of the 37th Bn before transferring to the 15th Bn. He would command the Halton Rifle in the 1920's and become Honorary Colonel of the Lorne Scots.
