Context

Captain Hedges was an officer with the Peel Regiment from 1901 until 1931. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Reserve Battalion from the late 1920's until his retirement. During the First World War, he served with the 20th Battalion in France from 1915 until invalided back to Canada as a result of being buried by a shell explosion in a trench he was in. He also had a long connection with the Queens Own Rifles in Toronto. Photographed in situ in the museum gallery.
