Description

Metal and enamel lapel pin, "For service at the front." Union Jack shield surmounted with "CEF" (Canadian Expeditionary Force). On the reverse, "Fine for misuse $500 or Six Months Imprisonment." #163674.

Use

A bronze and enamel pin issued to identify former soldiers who had served overseas in France and Belgium. Each pin had a unique number on the back which was tied to the individual who it was issued. Misuse was a serious offence. Former soldiers wore the pin on the lapel of their uniform or their civilian jackets.

Context

Issued from 1916 until 1919. May have been issued to Gunner RM Charters on demobilization in 1919.
