Description

An early 20th Century swagger stick. Brown wood, with a brass cap and a leather lanyard. The stick is made of stacked leather discs of different sizes, creating the bulge towards the top of the stick.

Use

Swagger sticks were primarily used as a tool of authority and discipline in military drill carried by Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs), Warrant Officers, and junior commissioned officers. In the British Army, swagger sticks were used to lead drills and maneuvers. The swagger stick was also used in ceremonial events and parades.
