Mraz attended Sacramento City College, then received a Master’s from University of Pacific. He then earned a PhD from Stanford University and USC. With his family, he moved to Los Altos at the birth of his daughter. Mraz started the Los Altos Conservatory Theatre (L’ACT) after running a theater group at Foothill College. He later started the California Arts Council to support theater and other art forms statewide.
After spending his teenage years in Broadway and theater, Doyne Mraz became a theater professor at Foothill College. There, he led an on-campus theater group, until he decided to start L’ACT, or the Los Altos Conservatory Theater. His passion for his work resulted in a quality theater space, fully furnished with theater chairs and lights. The community’s support for L’ACT kept the company economically afloat, showing the positive impact L’ACT had on Los Altos. His first exposure to theater was through the play The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams. Awestruck, Mraz went to his house and had a drink with him.Collection
