Mary Ross moved to Los Altos in February of 1957 for her job at Lockheed. She notes her special interest in educational opportunities and her work with Lockheed to inform area universities what the future needs of Silicon Valley companies would be so that they could prepare their students appropriately.
Ross began with her first position at Lockheed Aircraft Company in 1942, her work on airplanes from 1942-54, and her work in aerospace (guided missiles and orbital vehicles) from 1954-57. She moved to Los Altos when Lockheed established the Missiles System Division in the Bay Area. She mentions the lack of apartments, which led her to move into a small house in the Grant Road/Fremont Ave./Foothill Expressway "triangle," where she has remained. She describes various aspects of living here, including the orchards, the trains, and the shopping centers. She also covers the various locations that Lockheed built and occupied over the years. Her heritage as part Cherokee Indian did not have any significance in her career, no special consideration.Collection
