Mike attended the University of Massachusetts, earning his bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He later achieved his Ph.D. at Cornell, specializing in organic and inorganic chemistry. Over the years, he and his wife took classes in Italian to increase their proficiency. When Mike accepted an offer with Raychem, he and his wife moved to their newly built house on Pine Lane, in 1973. Mike became involved in the community with Mentor Tutor Connections, Sister Cities, and Friends of the Library. Mike aided Marge’s campaign for City Council in 1988 and 1992 and found that “There was no issue too small that can't be complained about."
Mike Bruno most notably volunteered for the Los Altos Sister Cities Inc. program by filling in various positions from its initiation in the 1980s until its discontinuation in 2016. Mike was also an active member in supplemental education for local students and was invaluable for his volunteer service to community organizations. Mike grew up in a blue-collar family of five and then had two children with his wife, Marge. He worked for DuPont as a researcher and manufacturer assistant, then later joined Raychem. In Los Altos, Mike enjoyed working with various community organizations and supporting his wife’s political activities.
Mike dedicated much of his time to serving his community, often working with Bob Grimm to facilitate and maintain the Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade. Mike also served as part of the 1989 delegation for the joint Sister Cities program with Syktyvhar, Russia. He taught chemistry with Mentor Tutor Connections with local high schools and volunteered for Friends of the Library.Collection
