Erichsen attended Los Altos Grammar School and Los Altos High School. She moved to Los Altos at age eight. Erichsen was part of the Girl Scouts as a child and teenager.
Ruth Erichsen grew up during the Great Depression in Los Altos. She noted that the community came together to support one another, treating one ethnicity as no different than another. People helped out with meals and clothing as much as possible. Additionally, her family grew their own produce instead of owning an orchard. Thanks to her stellar memory, Erichsen tells stories about many Los Altos families and businesses, especially those in the Downtown area.Collection
