Tadashi Kagawa attended Los Altos Grammar School and Palo Alto High School. After serving in the Army, he obtained a college degree. He was born in Los Altos. Kagawa was very active in the Los Altos community by supporting family businesses.
Kagawa spent a lot of time at the Shoup house where his father worked as the property’s caretaker, caring for the gardens and agriculture. He recalls enjoying the house’s many facilities, as the Shoup family was very warm and welcoming. He grew up in the early years of Los Altos and describes the development of San Antonio Road and businesses run by local families. In addition, Kawaga describes his experience as a Japanese American in a time when Los Altos was less culturally diverse. He credits his friendships for providing him the strength to handle challenges throughout life.
