William C. Shore (1830 - 1905) founded the Union Ice Company in 1884 on the east side of the railroad tracks, south of the depot. When the original wooden depot was torn down and replaced in the 1920s, the ice company was moved to the Shore property on Park Avenue. The horses and wagons pictured here were used to deliver blocks of ice to homes in town, where the ice was placed in the family ice box, usually located on the back porch. BDG065Collection
