Description

Writing for the Los Gatos Times-Observer on March 19,1969 reporter Mary Andrews said: "It was a field day for sidewalk superintendents on N. Santa Cruz Avenue Sunday as the old Shore building opposite Bean Avenue was razed to the ground. The historic old two-story frame building, long ago condemned, was once the scene of lodge meetings, dances, and happy fraternal get-togethers, a remnant of a quieter, more halycon era which many in Los Gatos remember with nostalgia." W.J. Kyle (1871 - 1920), who built the building, was an Irish immigrant. His daughter, Gladys Kyle Shore, remembered coming home from school and being able to treat her friends to cookies and donuts her father had made in the building when it housed his Capitola Bakery. In the years before it was demolished, the building located at 100 N. Santa Cruz Avenue, served as a warehouse for Beatrice Foods. SHU160b
