SP003Description
Hotel Lyndon is shown here not long before a wrecking ball took the building down on a March day in 1963. On April 10, 1963, the Los Gatos Planning Commission gave approval, by one vote, for a $4 million project to replace the old hotel with a building six stories high. The new building would feature retail businesses on the ground floor, and a second story of offices. Above that would be three stories of "hotel apartments." The sixth-floor would house a restaurant-cocktail bar and several deluxe apartments. The basement of the building would provide 100 parking stalls. The architect, Gifford Sobey, said that the design was fashioned to "blend with the natural beauty of Los Gatos." However, town clerk Beverly Blatnick soon received 10 separate appeals to stop the project, and it never came to fruition. SP003Collection
